Martin Eden au Théâtre La Mouche

Martin Eden, a sailor from the slums, leads a harsh life of travel, grueling jobs, and bar fights. His life is turned upside down when he meets Ruth Morse, a cultured young woman from California’s upper middle class. He falls madly in love with her. To impress her—and later out of a genuine love of learning—he builds up an encyclopedic knowledge by poring over the shelves of the library.

In a gentle, dreamlike atmosphere, the talented director—a longtime collaborator of Jean Bellorini, artistic director of the TNP—brings together a duo of exceptional actors and a small orchestra to bring to life this powerful story of love and freedom made possible by books. A real gem!
